"March 16 - as part of the "Day of Culture and National Traditions" dedicated to the promotion of cultural heritage, art and national traditions, a festive event called "Girl's Life" was held at the M. Auezov State University of Culture and Arts.
The event, organized by the "Cultural and Social Work" department of the "Culture and Arts" faculty, revived our traditions of putting a child in a cradle, presenting it, placing a girl on the right threshold, and giving a girl a ride. White grandmothers and elders blessed the baby, and a respectable and moral citizen presented the baby, while white sisters-in-law placed a girl who had turned 13 on the white threshold and demonstrated the tradition of giving a girl a ride.
"Putting a girl on the right threshold" as part of the festive evening is one of our traditions that is being forgotten. According to Kazakh tradition, when a girl reached the age of twelve, she was given a special place on the right threshold of the house, and her clothes, blankets, and a bed were shaded by a curtain. This tradition was called "placing the girl on the right threshold." The large curtain that covered and shaded her was called a "shymyldyk," and the girl's place inside the curtain was called a "kosege." When a beautiful girl was taken away, she would take her kosege with her. In this regard, the saying "May your kosege bloom" came from this.
